Now is the time to plan out your garden to save you money at the grocery stores and reduce the cost of buying fuel for your car. I have also included ways to save and share your seeds for your garden. This year I hope to use about 80-90% of the seeds I have saved to grow my garden.
I usually will purchase some new varieties to test and will purchase ones I have not had good luck in collecting from my plants.

Winter is a great time to buy your seeds for the plants you wish to grow.
Subscribe to seed company catalogs to select your seeds or go to your favorite gardening store. Do not skimp on seeds, buy from a reputable seed company for quality seeds to grow the best plants.
If you start from seeds read the details on starting the seeds in the garden or needing to start seeds indoors, some seeds need to be started indoors and planted in the Spring after the last frost.

Make your own seed tape
Making your own seed tape is easy and a fun project for children to join you in doing.
Supplies needed
Roll of toilet paper
Elmers white glue
Tweezers
Unroll toilet paper on the counter so that you can place a droplet of Elmer’s glue at the top and bottom of the roll to allow for correct spacing. For smaller seeds like carrots use tweezers to pick up seeds one at a time, place one seed on each droplet of glue. Allow to dry, once dry roll them up, and continue on with the next section of toilet paper.
For larger seeds, you will not need to use tweezers to pick up seeds.
When you are ready to plant it’s as easy as making a trench and rolling the paper out and covering to the depth required. This is a great way to get the youngest children into planting a garden.
Buy plants to grow in your garden
Most garden centers will have discounted plants that you can purchase for your garden and even if you pay full price they are not expensive. Always go to a reputable garden center that has healthy plants. If the plants look like they have been neglected and are wilted or do not have strong stocks go to another garden center to purchase your plants.
