Artist
I first want to give credit to the incredible artist that designed this license plate for the state of Oregon. His name is Marek Stanton who is only 16 and is not only a great artist but also an entomologist and is a master entomologist at Oregon State University. Quite the accomplishment for a 16-year-old.
I find this to not only be beautiful artwork but also find his support for this cause to be an outstanding way to rally Oregonians to support the bees not only for this state but also for the population of the world to help our bee friends who pollinate the food we eat.
The Bees Depicted on the License
Marek used the honey bee and the yellow-faced bumble bee on his license plate design, both of these bees are some of the most popular pollinating bees in Oregon where there are over 600 varieties that exist.
The red flower he designed for use on the license plate is red clover which is not only a favorite of these bees but also grows prolifically in Oregon’s Willamette Valley and is a native plant that is known for its crimson red color, fragrance, and pollen that is loved by bees.
Oregon has a vast agriculture production that relies on bees pollinating the fruit and vegetables that are grown here. Oregon produces cranberries, cherries, apples, pears, peaches, blueberries, and vegetable farms that rely on the bee’s help to pollinate them.
